Year 6 help in the community at Ladyewell
Read Ismaeel Haq's account of how Year 6 helped out in the community ....
During March, all the Year 6 children visited Ladyewell House to assist for 5 hours. Ladyewell has been there since 1685. The journey didn't take long at all and we were allocated parking in the nearby church. From there, we walked to Ladyewell which took about 10 minutes.
When we arrived, we entered the elegant conservatory, where we sat awaitiing our introduction. Father Thomas Hoole soon talked us through the rules and before long we began our duties, starting with gardening. At first it was messy, but when we put our backs into it, it became quite satisfying.
We moved onto our other duties of helping in the shop and cafe. We had many customers and i learnt how to make tea and coffee. Working in the shop was the most fun - I had Lars by my side, washing dishes and making drinks. Soon it was time to enjoy our packed lunches.
Next on the plan was to go and observe the relics. Miss Kennedy took us to look at relics such as Margaret Clitheroe's hand. It was interesting seeing things from the past and of such importance. That was shortly followed by a trip outside to see the Stations of the Cross.
After we had tidied up all the leaves and paths, we gathered to listen to Father's speech about Margaret Clitheroe and the founder of Ladyewell. Before long we headed back to St Pius, just in time to join in the Lenten Activities.
I would like to personally thank the teachers and helpers for organising and taking us to Ladyewell. It was a good experience.
