At Oak House Nursery, we are lucky to be able to share all the wonderful facilities of St Pius X Prep School. Situated in beautiful grounds, our nursery unit operates independently, yet is very much a part of the St Pius family atmosphere.

We have four light and spacious rooms, two of which have recently been refurbished. All our rooms are well equipped with a variety of learning resources; places to explore investigate and be creative and cosy areas to relax and snuggle in.

All classrooms have free flow to the outdoors, where children can choose to learn outdoors if they want to.  Outdoor classrooms provide a natural environment with challenges and opportunities for children to explore, investigate and think critically on a large scale, free from the restrictions of indoors.

The main nursery playground has a soft safety surface where children can be physically active, accessing equipment such as climbing frames, slides, bikes, scooters etc.  The children learn to move with confidence, imagination and safety, with an awareness of space, themselves and others.  Children also experience large scale water play, opportunities for digging and transporting, a garden area for growing plants and investigating natural resources and endless possibilities to be creative and imaginative.

Once a week the pre-school children join in the collective worship sessions with the older children.

Being on a school site, we benefit from having use of many of the school’s facilities such as the large hall/gymnasium, library, interactive whiteboards, as well as a purpose built music suite. The children also have several specialist teachers on hand, providing extra curricular lessons such as French and Music.  Children also have opportunities to take part in ballet, tennis and drama lessons, all delivered by fully qualified and experienced personnel (there is an additional charge for these activities).

The catering staff prepare fresh, healthy, balanced meals daily, on the premises.  The needs of all children, including those who have particular dietary requirements are catered for.  All nursery children enjoy eating their lunch in the school hall with the school children.  Our lunch times foster independence, encourage children to make healthy choices and develop children’s communication and social skills.

When your child is ready to start in Reception, you will find the transition is smooth, having had such a strong foundation in Oak House Nursery, and being familiar with the school and its facilities.
