Inspection reports

ISI Inspection

During November 2025, a team of inspectors visited St Pius X Catholic Preparatory School and examined all aspects of what we do.

They held discussions with members of staff and pupils. They visited areas right across the school. The responses of parents, staff and pupils to pre-inspection questionnaires, for which we helpfully had a high response rate, were analysed and they examined all our documentation and policies that we are required to have.

We are delighted to say that the inspectors were highly impressed with the quality of education, training and recreation in our school alongside with pupils' social and economic education and contribution to society. Highlights from the report include:

Academic

  • Leaders provide a broad curriculum which builds pupils’ knowledge and extends their understanding of the world around them. Leaders and teachers ensure well-planned lessons enable pupils to develop important knowledge, skills and comprehension.
  • Teachers support pupils to become well-motivated, articulate and confident learners who are able to work successfully on their own and with their peers. Pupils benefit from their teachers’ helpful written and verbal feedback, which helps them to learn new concepts and improve their work.
  • Teachers use assessment information effectively to support pupils’ learning and track their progress.
  • Staff in the early years deploy resources effectively to support children’s learning successfully.
  • Pupils who have SEND benefit from support plans which ensure teaching takes account of their individual needs.

Pastoral Development

  • Leaders maintain a warm, welcoming environment and successfully support pupils’ self-confidence and self-esteem. Leaders ensure that pupils make good progress in understanding the key principles and ideas related to faith.
  • Leaders successfully promote good pupil behaviour. Staff model respectful relations and implement the school’s code of conduct consistently and sensitively. Leaders adopt effective strategies to ensure there are few instances of bullying. Staff act promptly and sensitively to address any unkind behaviour and help pupils maintain good relationships with each other.
  • Leaders plan suitable activities for children in the early years and older pupils to develop their knowledge and skills in PE successfully. As a result, pupils learn the importance of teamwork, develop their physical skills and acquire greater confidence and self-esteem.
  • In the early years, children learn to work collaboratively with adults and each other, acquire greater independence and exercise choice about the activities they wish to undertake.
  • Leaders organise a variety of activities to help pupils learn about life beyond school.

Safeguarding, Leadership and Management

  • Leaders promote the schools’ specific aims successfully. They ensure staff model the school’s ethos consistently and manage pupils’ behaviour in line with the school’s values. As a consequence, a calm, friendly atmosphere characterises the school. Pupils and adults treat each other with courtesy and respect.
  • Leaders with responsibility for safeguarding ensure that any required referrals related to pupils are made promptly to external agencies, including the local authority and children’s services.
  • Highly effective leadership in the early years ensures that children benefit from a well-planned and stimulating curriculum. Well-trained staff stimulate children’s creativity and curiosity successfully and children acquire new knowledge, skills and understanding.
  • Leaders ensure that the school actively promotes and supports pupils’ specific individual needs.
  • Leaders with responsibility for safeguarding ensure that members of staff receive appropriate training. Leaders and staff respond to any safeguarding concerns in a timely way. Leaders with responsibility for safeguarding keep detailed records of safeguarding concerns and the school’s actions in response to these.
