Safeguarding - St Pius X Catholic Preparatory School
St Pius X Catholic Preparatory School

Safeguarding

We are fully committed to ensuring that the welfare of all of our children and young people remains our main priority.  The School recognises that all staff, and any adults who work alongside our pupils, have a duty to take such steps as are reasonable to promote safe practice and to protect children from harm, abuse and exploitation.

We have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) on our Senior Leadership Team:

We also have a specific safeguarding governor, who has lots of experience of steering child protection issues:

We genuinely endeavour to know everyone as an individual, and to provide a secure and caring environment so that everyone can learn in safety.  We insist on respect, good manners and fair play to be shown by all, so that every pupil can develop their full potential and feel positive about themselves as an individual.  Everybody at St Pius X Catholic Preparatory School should care for and support each other.

We believe it is important to work with parents and carers to help keep children safe.  In this respect, we aim to keep up to date as much as possible with current issues and concerns.  We use a variety of sources to do this, including the NSPCC for training and resources.  If you’d like to know more about their work, or take a look at the wide range of information and advice which is available for parents and carers, please visit their website at:

Operation Encompass

As part of our commitment to keeping children safe, St Pius X Catholic Preparatory School is proud to be part of Operation Encompass - a unique Police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.

Being part of Encompass means our school will receive a notification from Lancashire Constabulary before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident the previous day.  The information is given in confidence to a Key Adult at school, and will enable us to provide the best possible support for the child.  The Key Adults at our school are our Designated Safeguarding Leads: Mrs K Waltham and Mr P Gush.

If you have any questions or wish to know more about our involvement in Operation Encompass, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Waltham on 01772 719937. More information on Operation Encompass can be found on the following link: https://www.operationencompass.org/
